I was born in Santiago, in beautiful Chile, on July 24, 1973, and I have
been wandering around a bit since then. I grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay, then moved to Geneva, Switzerland, in
1991. In March 1997 I graduated in Electrical Engineering from the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology,
Lausanne (EPFL). During my studies I earned a one year exchange
fellowship to study at the Electrical and Computer Engineering departement (ECE) of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU -
Pittsburgh, PA, USA). My study interests where around signal and
image processing, my major projects being a real-time adaptive
digital audio equalizer and multi-feature image sequence
segmentation. After receiving my diploma I worked as an IT
consultant at Cambridge Technolgy
Partners, in Geneva. In March 1998 I joined the Signal Processing Institute (ITS,
formerly Signal Processing Laboratory - LTS)
in the MultiMedia Signal Processing
Lab as a PhD student and research
assistant, working mainly in the area of image and 3D model
compression. I finished my PhD, in parametric 3D surface
compression, in May 2003 and I continued working as a research and
teaching assistant until March 2004. Since then I work as a researcher
at VisioWave, on video coding.
Besides signal and image processing I also have a marked interest
in computers, operating systems (Linux in particular) and open source
software in general.
